Svādhyāya (“we”, “us”, “the app”), available at www.svadhyay.info and app.svadhyay.info, is a self-study manager for students. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it plain and short on purpose.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address and a password. Your password is stored only as a secure one-way hash; we never see or store it in readable form.
- Profile details — anything you choose to add: display name, full name, age, whether you study at school/college/other and its name, and a daily study goal. These are optional and used to personalise the app.
- Study data you create — your subjects, topics and sub-topics, your fixed weekly schedule (commitments), planned items, and the study sessions you record.
Information collected automatically
- A sign-in token stored in your browser so you stay logged in.
- Basic technical data your browser sends (such as device/browser type and IP address) that our hosting and backend providers process to serve and secure the app.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the service — compute your free time, track progress toward goals, and greet you by name.
- To create and secure your account, and keep you signed in.
- To send essential account emails only — such as confirming your email or a password-reset link. We do not send marketing emails.
- To maintain, debug and improve the app, and to keep it safe from abuse.
3. Where it's stored and how it's protected
Your data is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database on Supabase, and the app is hosted on Vercel. We rely on standard protections:
- Per-user isolation — database security rules (Row-Level Security) ensure each account can only read and write its own rows. Other users cannot see your data.
- Encryption in transit — all traffic uses HTTPS.
- Hashed passwords — handled by our authentication provider; we never store plaintext passwords.
4. When we share information
We do not sell your personal data or share it for advertising. We share data only with:
- Service providers who process it on our behalf to run the app — currently our database & authentication provider (Supabase), our host (Vercel), and an email provider for the account emails above.
- Legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the service.
5. Students & minors
Svādhyāya is made for students, and some may be minors. If you are below the age at which you can agree to online services on your own in your country (for example, 18 for entering a contract in India), please use the app with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from young children without such consent. A parent or guardian may contact us to review or delete a child's information.
6. Your choices & rights
- Access & edit — view and change your profile and study data any time inside the app.
- Delete — you can delete your data, or request that we delete your account and everything in it, by contacting us. Deletion is permanent.
- Export — request a copy of your data and we'll provide it.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or India's DPDP Act; contact us to exercise them.
7. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and study data are removed. Some minimal records may be retained briefly where required for security or by law.
8. Cookies & local storage
We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we'll make a reasonable effort to notify you in the app.
